A Prosperous NEW Year!

How are YOU bringing in the New Year..?? Do you have any customs or superstitions?

Here are some popular ones I've heard of through the years...

  •  12 round shape fruits. ~ Displayed on the dining table it's believed they attract good luck for the coming year (ex. apples, grapes, watermelon, cantaloupe, pineapple, star fruit, papaya, mangoes, oranges, pears, etc.)
  • Rice ~Ensuring that the rice tank is full before the New Year symbolizes assurance that the whole family would have plenty of food through out the year.
  • Opening the front door and windows~ This symbolizes out with the old and in with the New.
  • Money~ Attaching coins and paper bill on the front door, to attract prosperity in the new year. Also it's believed if you have money in your pockets it will attract money in the coming year.. The bigger the nomination the better.
  • Wearing red or green~ to attract wealth for the New Year.
  • Grapes~ Consuming 12 grapes before it turns Midnight on New Years Eve is believed to promote good health.

For MORE on different customs around the world you can read up a little @ Goals Guy or Here...

What customs do YOU have?

    Showing your Apreciation

So, Christmas is Finally OVER!!! lol..and now it's time to send out the thank you cards. For me, this is usually a little dry.  Not that I'm not appreciative or grateful for the generosity of family and friends, but I have a hard time finding the time.  This year I jumped the gun a little and prepared ahead of time.  I stamped and placed our return address on all the envelopes and pre-addressed the ones I KNEW we were getting gifts from.  Folks like my parents, my In-Laws, Friends, etc.

Etiquette rules require that you observe a three-day rule for sending a thank-you note or letter.  But, I believe, it's better to say thank you late than never at all, so don't give up on sending a letter of appreciation later if you feel that this is appropriate.

I finally have all of mine written out and envelopes stuffed, and as soon as I can get to a mail box they will be out...This storm has us snowed in.. lol.. (Probably the MAIN reason it got done so quickly. bwahahahaha)

We bought Kindles for the in-laws, and as I sat there Christmas evening and helped them set them up, I couldn't help but think to myself.. These are pretty COOL.. So, looks like there may be a Kindle in the near future for us..

      Happy Holidays

For our family to yours... Happy Holidays...

      Christmas Recipe

Take a heap of child-like wonder
      That opens up our eyes
To the unexpected gifts in life—
      Each day a sweet surprise.
      Mix in fond appreciation
      For the people whom we know;
      Like festive Christmas candles,
Each one has a special glow.
Add some giggles and some laughter,
      A dash of Christmas food,
(Amazing how a piece of pie
      Improves our attitude!)
      Stir it all with human kindness;
Wrap it up in love and peace,
      Decorate with optimism, and
      Our joy will never cease.
If we use this healthy recipe,
      We know we will remember
To be in the Christmas spirit,
      Even when it's not December.

There's a Tattle Tale in OUR house.

This has been a great year for us, my husband has been home for the majority of the year.  We have had a few rough years with crazy back to back deployments, etc.  I got pregnant right at the beginning of his sea duty tour, and although deployments were and are difficult, they are much more challenging when you bring kiddos into the mix.  So, like so many military families out there, it is not unheard of to have a family member deployed during the holidays, and we are no different.  This will be the first year since the gremlins have been born that we have the whole family together during Christmas and celebrating it at home.

Like so many families, we face the challenges of deciding what traditions you bring into the new nucleus, which to adjust, can, or create all together.  We decided to go traditional on this one because it is our first together, but plan to adjust it for next year (but that's whole other post that I may or may not get to.. lol) and we even added one..

The Elf on the Shelf, the concept is your elf watches all day and in the evening reports back to Santa with everything the child(ren) did throughout the day, good and bad.  He returns every morning before the child(ren) awake and of course takes a NEW spot.  It's our responsibility to move him every evening and the kids get a real kick finding him every morning...
Oh yeah... The kiddos also get to NAME their elf... Our elf is named "Snitch".  At first I found him utterly creepy...
But.. with time, "Snitch" has grown on me. I've found myself getting a little excited when I come downstairs every morning, to see if I can spot where my husband has placed him BEFORE the girls do.

Sometimes Hubby gets VERY creative.. lol

I think this is ONE tradition that will survive onto next year..

and on a side note... Is it just me? or Does "Snitch" kind of look like Curt from Glee????

      We put up our Tree

Our very FIRST tree after we got married was a nice little fake tree we bought in Italy.. I loved my tree....  Once we moved back to the states, Hubby wanted to go back to the more traditional practice of cutting down, or buying a live tree.  Me? I truly could care less either way.. I am a Grinch, I'm a scrooge, BAH HUMBUG.. bwahahahahah So, it wasn't too difficult to just let it happen.... Besides, there weren't many Christmases together anyhow.. bwahahahahaha.. I'd say in the 18 yrs we've been together Hubby and I have maybe spent 10 Christmases together.

In case you are wondering our little tree is still around and has ROCKED EVERY Christmas since we purchased her... We gave her to my sister and her and the kids get a real kick out it... and this year.. IIIIII won and broke hubby down into buying a fake tree again.. bwahahahahaha Black Friday deal.. NO ONE would have turned it down.. lol

And the Gremlins had a KICK out of putting it up with daddy...

YEAH and the BOX was a hit too.. hahahahahaha

Do you buy a tree every year? Do you put up a fake one? or the new trend of Keeping a LIVE potted Christmas tree year round??

      Sincerely,
