I Swear!!!

I Must say today has got to be one of the MOST frustrating day I've had EVER.

The girls have been sick for close to three weeks now.  Between Fevers, Diarrhea, vomiting and sleepless nights, I'm about to explode.  If things couldn't get any worse, we're just about out of diapers.  So, even though the girls are ill, and the day is rainy, I decided I had no choice but to venture out to buy diapers.
Here I am, just running in and out, and I'm so excited the girls are doing fine, and this is where my luck runs out.  First off, Luna is missing her shoes and 1 sock (How could I not have noticed sooner).  I think to myself it should be fine, just pay and then go back for a search and recover mission.  Beep Beep Beep, OK, Lady, can you go any slower?  Here we go, Luna starts wailing... Against my better judgement, I pick her up out of the cart.. As expected, as if on cue, Star starts fussing to.  Heck, did I really expect any different??????.. NAAAHHHH!!!

And as if I'm not stressing enough?  My card gets declined... I know I have money on it.. COME ON!!!!  The cashier runs off to call it in.. Whatever that means.. OK... Two screaming kids... COME ON!!!!  I try another card, it's not the first time, since my husband is deployed, they keep seeing those charges as possible fraud.  I guess I should be happy they're looking out for me, but this is not the time for my cards to be frozen...

5 dirty looks, 4 phone calls, 3 visa cards, 2 screaming babes, 1 frustrated mama....

Now, I find myself crying to my car, kids are still crying, now I think they're feeding off of me.

After I have them buckled in... SHIT!! The sock and shoe... I know you may think it's not worth it, but my OCD... I foresee sleepless nights if i go home with 3 shoes and 3 sock.. so, I put my babies back in the carts and trail them back through the store... yup.. the bad, poor, crazy mommy parade.. keep staring... What do you know, and who the F are you to judge...

Someone finally tells me she found them and sent them to customer service... Off we go.. YUP they've started screaming again.. and as I'm in line to talk to someone at Customer service, I can see the items... I start waving the matching items, to see if someone can get a clue.... They see me, I KNOW they hear us.. Finally, I get my stuff, and back to the car.. I turn on the DVD, and they calm down, but I'm still a mess.  I mean I guess I had been holding A LOT in for a while now..

And my icing on the cake?

I get pulled over for doing 40 in a 35 mph zone.. WTF...  and after seeing my screaming twins, my tear ridden face, the SOB still gave me the citation... and his consolation?  He "put my court date out", so that I may enjoy my holidays... Put it out?  I'll tell you where to PUT it...
Shove it up your ASS!!!

Aloha Friday #12

In Hawaii, Aloha Friday is the day to take it easy and look forward to the weekend. Kalani @ An Island Life is hosting Aloha Friday. What's that you ask? I’ll ask a simple question for you to answer. Nothing that requires a lengthy response. If you’d like to participate, just post your own question on your blog and leave your link at An Island Life. Don’t forget to visit the other participants! It’s a great way to make new bloggy friends!

Today’s question is:

To turkey or not to turkey...

Did you eat turkey on gobble gobble day? What was on your menu?

My family fried a turkey and a pork roast. They also had candied yams, Moro (classic Hispanic rice with beans dish), potato salad, and rolls. Unfortunately I had top take mine to go. The girls were under the weather, and mommy trumps sister, wife, daughter or friend...

I Can See Clearly Now

I remember my youthful days, and the teen idols, if they're still called that. There were so many I just didn't get, and couldn't put my finger on why they were such a hit with the girls. One of which was Brian Austin Green. I loved 90210, and so many beautiful people, but I just never understood what all the fuss was about.

Now, at least 20 years later, I'm hooked on Terminator: The Sarah Conor Chronicles, and let me tell you, fuss away. This young awkward boy has definitely become some juicy eye candy. I guess it just took me a while longer than most to see the potential, and it's not that I prefer the bad boy image, on the contrary, I'm like more of the geeky awkward smart guy kinda gal. Not that I don't get a kick out of watching some good ole fashion @$$ kicking. But If I was to run down a list of my kinda hotties, there would be an 80/20 ratio between dorky and tough. If you haven't checked Brian Austin Green in this season of Terminator: The Sarah Conor Chronicles you're missing out. H-O-T!

Today’s question is:

Can you forgive AND forget?

I have a very difficult time doing both. I've personally been known to hold grudges... (been holding one now for close to 14 yrs.. lol).. Now, I know I need to reassess my attitude, being a mom, I'd like to raise forgiving daughters. I guess I'll just keep telling my husband to be patient with me.. lol

Up all night!!

I know I've been a little MIA lately, but the girls have both been battling one doozie of a cold. Between the fevers, vomiting, and diarrhea, I've been up to my neck in chores. Of course my mom swears it's the teething, but I'm just NOT too sure... I did however come across some interesting info, I'd like to share..

The CDC considers young children to be "high risk" for the flu virus and recommends that they receive a flu shot early during the flu season. Typically, January is the height of flu season however; it takes the body about two weeks after vaccination to develop sufficient antibodies to the flu, so we encourage all to get vaccinated as soon as possible.

Colds and flu are caused by viruses. "Flu" is the abbreviated name for multiple strains of influenza virus that can result in significant upper respiratory infections. Flu is very different from a cold. It is a much more severe illness, characterized by a high fever, runny nose, extreme fatigue, sore throat, nausea, hacking cough, headache, and muscles aches. Getting the flu carries a high risk of complications including ear infections, pneumonia, dehydration and even death. In fact, influenza causes about 30,000 deaths per year in the United States.

Like the common cold, influenza is spread through respiratory droplets of an infected individual who is coughing or sneezing or by touching something contaminated with virus. Children who are ill with the flu can readily spread the virus to others at risk in the community and should stay home with their parents or caregivers until they recover.

The best defense against the flu is by having your baby or toddler receive the flu vaccine. There are two types of vaccines: one contains an inactivated virus and is given by an injection (a flu shot); the second is a weakened live virus that is sprayed in the nose (FluMist). The flu shot can be given to children six months old and over.

Reasons not to get the flu shot include serious egg allergy, prior reaction to a flu shot, or severe illness at the time the shot is given. The most common side effects of the flu shot are mild pain and swelling at the injection site and a low grade fever. Contrary to popular belief, you cannot get the flu from a flu vaccine!

FluMist is available for children two years old and over. It cannot be given to children with an egg allergy. FluMist is also not recommended if a child has asthma or lives with a person who has a severely weakened immune system. Side effects of FluMist immunization include a runny nose, fever, and sneezing. To achieve optimal immunity from influenza, all children under age eight who are receiving flu vaccine for the first time, must be given a second dose of vaccine one month after the first.

The best advice for preventing the flu is helping your child with good hand hygiene, cleaning shopping carts, avoiding contact with others who are sick and getting flu shots early in the season.

For aches, pains and fever
, you may give your child Tylenol or ibuprofen Motrin or Advil as directed by the manufacturer and your provider. Your child may not want to eat, but should be encouraged to drink plenty of fluids. Your child may be tired and will want and need extra sleep.

For congestion and nasal stuffiness
, you may:

  • Use saline nasal drops every 4 hours while awake. It helps clean out the sinuses and makes it easier to breathe.
  • Put your child to sleep with a humidifier at his or her bedside.

If your child has a fever over 100.5 and difficulty breathing, you will need to have them evaluated by a healthcare provider as soon as possible.
